“A dream is a wish your heart makes…..” – those words from the song in Cinderella have always really summed up for me what Disney is all about. Dreaming and wishing and hoping. That’s what I love about Disney on Ice. It’s as if that dreaming and wishing comes alive right in front of your eyes.
This show contains so many of our favourite scenes from Disney movies – that heart-warming moment when Gus Gus and the other mice come to the rescue of Cinderella, that funny moment when the whole audience yells out Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo with the fairy godmother, and that moment where everyone stops to catch their breath when they see how beautiful Cinderella looks as she enters the ball.
Or how about the nail-biting moment when the evil queen sentences Snow White to death and sends her huntsman after Snow. Or the giggly moment when the 7 dwarfs (especially that silly silly Dopey) start marching in: Heigh HO!!!!! Then more nail biting as the evil queen shows up with a poisoned apple: The yells from the crowd get louder each time Snow asks, “Should I take a bite of it?” – no, no, NO!!!!! And then of course the sigh of relief when the prince shows up to save the day.
But our all time favourite moment in this show is the one that truly truly makes you embrace the magic of Disney. You can just feel the pixie dust in the air when Rapunzel and Flynn actually take flight! It’s beyond words and something that you absolutely must see in person.
A few little girls were sitting in front of us and before the show they had a moment of disappointment when they found out that Elsa and Ana weren’t going to be there. I promised them that they were going to love this show and that the Tangled part was the best of all – I promised them there would be magic. Well, you should have seen the looks on their faces when Rapunzel’s feet first left the ice. They turned around and looked at me with huge smiles on their faces and then turned to their mom and said, “She’s flying. It IS magic Mommy!!!”
I think out of all the Disney on Ice shows I’ve seen, this is my all time favourite (the others all get 5 out of 5 stars – this one gets a bonus 6th star for making Rapunzel fly). If you want to see it too, you’ve still got time! There are more shows to come and I’ve heard there are still some tickets available.
