The Aviva Community Fund Competition is well underway and Phase Two has just started! Aviva has set up this competition as a way to give back to the communities it serves by allowing Canadians to have input and impact on the positive changes needed. As an insurance company, Aviva recognizes that it has a great deal of responsibility to its customers but they take that responsibility even further to the community at large, supporting projects that protect children and youth, the environment, and anywhere else there is a need.
In the Aviva Community Fund Competition, Canadian residents can submit ideas for positive change in their communities and these ideas then get voted on. There is a wide range of ideas that have been submitted into the competition so you're sure to find something you would like to support to make a difference in your community. My choice is the Canadian Deafblind Association Sensory Garden. The idea is to create a garden for deafblind community members of all ages that would incorporate items such as edible plants, aromatic plants, and carved handrails to provide stimulation for the senses. My grandmother wore two hearing aids and had great difficulty hearing as well as being legally blind by the time she died and I just think of how much something like this would have meant to her! To have a place that was especially designed for someone like my grandmother – I can just picture her sitting there on a garden bench taking it all in with a smile on her face!
When you visit the Aviva Community Fund Competition site, you're sure to find a cause that resonates with you as well. You can browse through them, search according to your geographic region or types of ideas until you find the one(s) that are your favourites! To vote, you simply need to be registered on the site or you can use Facebook Connect to vote directly through the Facebook app. You get 15 votes for each of the initial three phases and then 15 votes for the Semi-Finals. You can choose to use all of those votes on one idea or spread them among several but you may only cast one vote per day.
Can it be any simpler to help do something good for your community? Find an idea, vote, and they could win up to $150,000 to put their idea into action. A total of $1,000,000 will be given away but it can only be done with YOUR help!
