With the stress of the holidays and harsh winter weather on its way, I decided that now was the perfect time to get my friends together for a pampering spa party. Goodness knows that I could use some self-indulgence so I was sure that my friends would appreciate it too. I headed off the Sam’s Club to find all the supplies I needed. My best find was the amazing deal on NIVEA lotion two packs – only $8.98 for two large bottles of lotion! I picked up enough to use during the party as well as sending home a bottle with each of my friends. Check out my Google+ album to share in my full shopping experience.
There were so many options of things we could do at the party but I decided to focus on mani-pedis. These would allow us the indulgent pampering I wanted to give to my friends as well as providing plenty of time for enjoying each other’s company. We started out by soaking our hands/feet to begin softening them up. I have a foot spa – one that allows you to not only soak your feet but gives them a soothing massage at the same time and we took turns with this. I made up a foot/hand soak solution that added to the experience: 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup Epsom salts, 1/4 cornstarch and my guest’s choice of essential oils or peppermint, rosemary, or lavender leaves. I suggested peppermint for the foot bath as it is both refreshing and invigorating for tired achy feet and lavender for the hand soak as it is gentle and soothing. The aromatherapy that we received from the scents was an added bonus!
Next up was using a sugar scrub to slough away and exfoliate all that dead skin. I made up extra jars of the scrub to add to the little goodie bags I was sending home with my guests. The scrub is: 1 cup sugar (white or brown), 1/2 cup oil (I used olive but I find grapeseed oil quite lovely for this too), and some essential oils.
After rinsing and wiping away the excess sugar scrub, we were ready to add the piece de resistance to our night of pampering with the NIVEA lotion. NIVEA says that the lotion containing natural sea minerals, Vitamin E, and almond oil “fortifies and enriches very dry, rough skin”. After using the NIVEA for a week myself, I knew that the NIVEA was just what we needed to give our skin the softening we wanted. It was rich and creamy without being greasy! We started out with hand/foot massages with the NIVEA but most people ended up using the lotion not just on their hands and feet but on their entire arms and legs – it just felt that good!
My friends and I had such a fun time chatting and laughing all the while taking some much needed time for pampering ourselves. As one friend said, “We didn’t just relax and pamper our bodies. This helped us relax and pamper our minds too!” What a great way to relieve the stress of the week! I sent them each home with their own bottle of NIVEA lotion, a jar of sugar scrub, and some of my homemade milk bath so they could continue to pamper and indulge themselves on a regular basis. We all agreed that while we may not have time for full mani-pedis but we could certainly use NIVEA lotion every day to look and feel great all the time!

That looks like so much fun, Cyn! Thanks for sharing your recipes too! Did you go to a Sam’s Club in Canada or did you have to cross the border? I didn’t even know we had them here!

Had to go to Port Huron. We used to have a Sam’s Club in London but apparently they just didn’t survive in Canada. 🙁
