Welcome to Lori Anderson of Pretty Things’ 7000 Bracelets for Hope Blog Hop! There are 112 of us taking part in this blog hop creating bracelets for The Global Genes Project, an advocacy group for those with rare diseases. Their 7000 Bracelets for Hope campaign asks people to create bracelets which will then be given to one of 7000 families who have children with rare diseases to let them know that someone is thinking of them and sending them love, support, and hope.
If you arrived here from Rebecca Anderson’s blog, Songbeads, you are in the right place. If you would like to start this blog hop from the very beginning or you get lost along the way, be sure to check out the full list of participants below.
I started out by making some of the beads myself. I used some scraps of Lutradur that I had leftover from another project and applied acrylic paints, alcohol inks, some Liquitex iridescent medium, Derwent Inktense pencils and ink from rubber stamping pads to the surface. I cut the Lutradur into strips using my Fiskars mini scallop scissors and then rolled them into a tube, using a bamboo skewer as my form. I found that Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue worked the best to hold the beads together.
The rest of the beads and charms I used came from my stash. We needed to make the bracelets adjustable as we don’t know the size of the recipient’s wrist so I decided to use memory wire for mine instead of adding adjustable chain and clasps. I’m still a beginner when it comes to this kind of jewellery making and I wanted to make this something I could achieve at my skill level.
I wrapped the center bead (one of my handmade ones) with blue wire and added a small bead as detail.
At each end of the bracelet, I added a charm – one saying “inspire” and the other a butterfly (my signature symbol and one that I believe symbolizes hope) that reads “created for you”. I added a couple of silver heart charms as well.
I hope you like the bracelet I’ve made and if you’d like to see more of the diverse variety of art and crafts that I make, I’d love for you to subscribe to my blog.
Your next stop is Niky Sayer’s blog, Silver Nik Nats. There are people from all over the world, not just on this blog hop, taking part in 7000 Bracelets for Hope. You can get involved too! Just check out The Global Genes Project website to find out more information.
