5 Reasons Why You Need a Maxi Dress in Your Closet
You hear a lot of jokes about bloggers living in their pajamas. After all, we’re working from home every day all day and it’s true – it IS easy to just roll out of bed and start working. Showering and getting dressed be damned! Then you read those articles about how people are more productive if they are actually dressed and ready for their day. Here’s the thing. I need to be comfortable. Working from home means not only doing my job but in between, I’m taking care of the family, cooking, and cleaning AND because of some health issues I have, I generally have to change locations while I work. Some of it is done at my desk, some in my comfy chair, and honestly, some from my bed. So successful work clothing for me has to be super comfortable and flexible.
That’s why I love maxi dresses so much. In fact, if my whole wardrobe was made of maxi dresses and only maxi dresses, I would be really happy. I find that they fit well and work well with my body type so I always feel not only comfortable but attractive when I’m wearing one. With other clothes, I often find myself tugging at them and very aware of them because I just don’t feel relaxed in them. With maxi dresses, I feel none of that discomfort and yet, if I have to run an errand or answer the door to a visitor, I am still looking put together and presentable.
Maxi dresses are my all time favourite dresses. Here’s 5 Reasons Why You Need a Maxi Dress in Your Closet too.
They are incredibly comfortable.
Maxi dresses are just so comfy! You might think that a long dress like that would feel stifling on a hot summer day but they are usually made with a loose fit and breathable fabric so despite being quite covered up, you feel cool and collected. They can provide you with modesty and coverage when wanted and they are great at accentuating the positives about your body and camouflaging anything you would prefer to hide. Quite frankly, if we stopped right here, that would be enough for me to call the maxi the ideal dress for me!
They are so versatile.
Versatility is vital when it comes to my wardrobe. I really dislike shopping and I really don’t want to spend a lot on clothing so I want pieces that will function for a variety of purposes. I have maxis that look great when worn to the beach with a pair of flip flops and a floppy hat but that can be dressed up with “fancy” shoes and jewelry and worn to a wedding or other party. In fact, I DID wear a maxi to a wedding – my daughter’s wedding when I was not only in attendance but walking her down the aisle! Since then, I have worn the same dress to a beach party, a cocktail party at a conference. AND they transition well from season to season! By adding a jacket, many of my maxis are perfectly suitable to carry me beyond summer right into fall and even winter!
They allow me to look so put together.
Since they are so long and loose and comfortable, as I said above, they can offer coverage and modesty making them perfect for family occasions, going to church, or dressing professionally. I just love that! I’ll admit, I am not one of those women who do a great job of sitting there, legs crossed, looking classy and demure. I tend to be the one who ends up sitting on the floor playing with the kids. Maxi dresses keep me covered!!! Furthermore, they have been in style for as long as I can remember so despite me being fashion challenged, a maxi dress allows me to look current and put together.
They offer protection from the sun.
I am fair skinned and really prone to burning so maxi dresses help to keep me covered up while still allowing me to be cool and comfortable in the heat. You might be thinking, well Cyn (yes of course you can call me Cyn), why don’t you just wear sunscreen? I do! Believe me, I slather it on and I continue to reapply it but still, there’s either that one spot that I miss or the sunscreen just doesn’t provide full coverage and I end up with red, tender, sunburnt sections of skin. Ouch! Staying covered while staying stylish is a win for me.
They are affordable fashion.
The most I have ever paid for a maxi dress was $50 and that was the one I bought for my daughter’s wedding. Maxis come in all price ranges and the majority of the ones I own were purchased for under $20. With everything else they have to offer, this makes them the hardest working pieces in my wardrobe and definitely, the ones that have given me the biggest bang for my buck.
I’m a low maintenance person and maxi dresses fit perfectly into my relaxed comfortable lifestyle without making me look sloppy. They are all ones that I can just throw into my suitcase when I am traveling and there is no need for ironing when I arrive at my destination. In fact, I’ve been known to toss a few maxis, a couple pairs of flip flops, and a pair of flats into my suitcase along with my undergarments and consider that a complete travel wardrobe! Add a few accessories and I am good to go for any occasion. And as one final bonus: because of how well they cover me, I can even skip shaving my legs and still look great. Hahaha! Maxi dresses for the win!
