3 Tips for Decorating Your Home With Pottery

Humans have been making pottery for thousands of years, and pottery continues to be popular because of its beauty and versatility. You can add elegance, warmth, or character to any space in your home with pottery. Whether you already use pottery in your interior design or you’re just getting started with your home decor, use these three tips for decorating your home with pottery.

Mix Pottery Types for a Dynamic Display

Using pottery of various shapes, sizes, textures, and colors can create a dynamic arrangement overflowing with visual interest. Place the pieces together to avoid a chaotic look, perhaps at the end of a shelf, bookcase, or sideboard. This arrangement makes your eclectic display look tastefully curated.

Placement Tip: Create Visual Triangles

Place taller objects in the back and use smaller objects to fill in the gaps of your display. Avoid grouping similar-sized pottery together. For an arrangement that’s naturally pleasing to the eye, you can stagger objects based on height and size to create symmetrical or asymmetrical visual triangles.

Complement Your Design Style

Another tip for decorating your home with pottery is to choose pieces that complement your design style. Opt for sleek and modern pottery with clean lines and neutral tones if you have a contemporary or minimalist interior.

On the other hand, if your home has a more rustic or bohemian vibe, experiment with earthy tones, handcrafted pottery, and intricate designs. The key is to ensure the pottery you choose enhances rather than clashes with the style and colors of your home.

Tip: Complementary Pieces Can Be Unexpected

Finding pottery that suits your style doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with different options. For example, one of the most common myths about terracotta decor is that it only suits rustic styles. But thanks to various shapes, finishes, and colors, terracotta is a warm pottery medium that can find its place in industrial and modern homes, too.

Use Pottery Practically

Pottery can serve a functional purpose, so consider using pottery in a practical way. For example, rustic stoneware fruit bowls look beautiful as centerpieces on dining tables and keep fruit accessible and organized.

Use vases, mugs, and planters to showcase bouquets, hold living plants, or store small items. Doing this allows you to fully enjoy the beauty and usefulness of each piece.

Add style, personality, and artistry to your living space with pottery. You can incorporate pottery into your home design by creating dynamic displays, choosing pieces that complement your style, and simply enjoying the functionality of your pieces.
