I’ve been trying to get motivated to work on the Hive’s Spring Challenge but seem to have some creative block there that’s getting in my way. Of course, while many of you are regaling us with stories of sunshine, 80 degree weather, and flowers blooming, this is what I see when I look out my window.
“You can’t see Canada across lake Erie, but you know it’s there. It’s the same with spring. You have to have faith, especially in Cleveland.” ~Paul Fleischman
That thing buried in snow at the forefront of the picture – that would be my gas barbecue.
I swear I saw grass back there the other day.
I’m so over the “trees look so pretty don’t they” at this point.
Ok, so here’s one good thing about the returning snow – the dog is in heaven! (Check out the snow on the end of her nose – she loves to just bury her nose in the snow! She eats snow, she rolls in it making doggie snow angels, she gallops through it like a horse!) As the snow was melting away, she kept seeking out whatever little patches of it were left to hang out in and the other day when it was all gone, she tried eating some grass. She looked up at me with this look of disgust on her face as if to say, wait a minute! That’s not snow!!! What did you do with my snow?????
“Spring is sooner recognized by plants than by men.” ~Chinese Proverb
Ahh but look what I found peeking its way through the snow! It’s the first crocus! Yes I know many of you have lovely blooming gardens at the moment, but for this northerner you have no idea how exciting and comforting it is to see that first little crocus pushing its way up through the snow and ice.
“If you’ve never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom.” ~Terri Guillemets
There are many signs of spring around – even though it can be hard to see them when you’re blinded by the lingering signs of winter. Robins have returned to my backyard and are beginning to build a nest in the tree. The dog is shedding her winter coat (EVERYWHERE!). Tim Horton’s just had their annual Roll up the Rim event. Local grocery stores have begun erecting the “cages” that will soon become the outdoor garden centers. But it’s the crocus making its appearance each year that for me really signifies the beauty and promise of Spring.
“No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.” ~Hal Borland
Perhaps now I’m ready to tackle the Spring challenge! Isn’t it wonderful how motivating nature can be?
